Policy 2.4 Role of the Chair and Vice-Chair
The Chairperson, or designate, shall be the official spokesperson to the news media for the Board.


The Chair will call the meeting to order. With great respect and humility, we acknowledge and honour the lands of the Snuneymuxw people. The Snuneymuxw people maintain their profound, unique and spiritual connection to the land through ageless traditions, teachings, stewardship and expressions of reciprocity.

  • That the Agenda be approved.

  • That the minutes from the Regular Board of Education meeting held on March 27, 2024,  be adopted.

  • That the Section 72(3) Report from the Closed Board of Education meeting on March 27, 2024, and the Special Closed Board meetings on April 3, 2024 and April 10, 2024 be received.

Re:  Community Partner Engagement in Food Literacy Education

Re: Indigenous Education Funding 

  • That the Board of Education of School District No. 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith), refer the above correspondence from the Ministry of Education and Child Care to be received and filed.

  • That the Board of Education of School District No.68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) give the Capital Bylaw No. 2024/25-CPSD68-01 all three readings at one meeting, today, this 24th day of April, 2024.

  • That the Board of Education of School District No. 68 adopt the Capital Bylaw cited as “School District No. 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) Capital Bylaw No. 2024/25-CPSD68-01” being a bylaw associated with accessing capital funds through capital funding programs from the Ministry of Education and Child Care, in the 2025/2025 School Year.

    Read a first time this 24th day of April, 2024.

  • That the Board of Education of School District No. 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) make the attached draft 2024-2028 Strategic Plan available to the public utilizing the consultation process as per Board Governance, Section 1, 2.17 and to report back at the Business Committee on June 12, 2024, and include a request for feedback on the theme of our 2024-2028 Strategic Plan "Success for All" tagline.

  • That the Board of Education of School District No. 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) refer the presentation regarding the planting of trees on school grounds to the next available Business Committee meeting agenda for discussion with an accompanying staff report outlining the process for requesting and obtaining approval for planting trees and other landscaping on school grounds including the selection of plant species, funding of materials and labour, ongoing maintenance, and any implications with respect to the Environmental Stewardship Action Plan.

Question Period is intended to enable the public to obtain clarifying information regarding a current agenda item.


Individuals wishing to ask questions of the Board upon completion of Committee and Board sessions shall do so in writing on the form provided which includes their name, street address and email address.  The individual will be asked to verify his/her self and be afforded the opportunity to read out their own question.  Each individual shall be limited to one follow-up question upon receiving a response. Forms are available in the information rack near the entrance of the Board Room.


If the meeting is being held online, individuals wishing to ask questions of the Board shall type their question in the Q&A compose box on the right side of the screen and then select send. Your question will be read by the Board or Committee Chair.


Questions and responses will be included in the video of the meeting and the meeting minutes and will be part of the public record.
