The Chair will call the meeting to order. With great respect and humility, we acknowledge and honour the lands of the Snuneymuxw people. The Chair called the meeting to order at 5:02 pm.

There were no additions.

Re: Coal Tyee Name Change

Superintendent Saywell outlined the consultation feedback.  An Action Sheet is attached to the Agenda.

    That the Board of Education of School District No. 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) approve the name change of Coal Tyee Elementary School to “syuẁén'ct”.

Re: NDSS Community Field Naming

Superintendent Saywell outlined the consultation feedback.  An Action Sheet is attached to the Agenda.

    That the Board of Education of School District No. 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) approve the naming of the NDSS Community Field to “q’unq’inuqwstuxw ”.

Re:  City of Nanaimo Request for Letter of Support 

Mark Walsh advised that the City of Nanaimo is seeking the Board's support in their bid to host the 2025 or 2026 BC 55+ games.  An Action Sheet is attached to the Agenda.

    That the Board of Education of School District No. 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) write a letter of support for the City of Nanaimo’s bid to host the 2025 or 2026 BC 55+ games (formerly called the BC Seniors Games).

Re: Environmental Sustainability Action Plan 

Scott Saywell and Trustee Stanley presented a draft Environmental Sustainability Action Plan for consideration.  An Action Sheet is attached to the Agenda.

    That the Board of Education of School District No. 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) recommends that staff make the attached draft Environmental Sustainability Action Plan available to the public for consultation immediately, as per Policy 2.17 Public Participation, and to report back in September with public feedback and any proposed changes.
