The Chair will call the meeting to order. With great respect and humility, we acknowledge and honour the lands of the Snuneymuxw people. The Snuneymuxw people maintain their profound, unique and spiritual connection to the land through ageless traditions, teachings, stewardship and expressions of reciprocity.

Re: Notice of Motion - Masks

Trustees discussed mask wearing in elementary schools.  Local Medical Health Officer, Dr. Sandra Allison, attended for this portion of the meeting and answered Trustee questions.

    That the Board of Education for School District 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) require masks for Grade 6 & 7 students in all indoor areas, including when they are in learning groups, with exemptions for students who cannot wear masks for health or behavioural reasons, effective upon the return from Spring Break.

    That the Board of Education for School District 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) require all students in grades 6 & 7 to wear face masks in schools, both within and outside their learning groups, in a manner consistent with the most recent health and safety guidelines for middle and secondary schools outlined by the Ministry of Education.

Re: Hul'q'umi'num Language in NLPS

Director of Instruction, Indigenous Learning Ted Cadwallader presented on Hu'l'umi'num language based learning programs and resources in the district. 

Re: Thought Exchange Feedback on 2021/22 Budget

Executive Director of Communications Dale Burgos provided the results from the 2021/22 Budget Thought Exchange Survey.  The results are attached to the Agenda.

Re: ESSAC Membership

Trustees discussed the proposed membership of the ESSAC and agreed to list the "Knowledge Keepers" in the membership list.

     That the Board of Education of School District No. 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) approve the membership of the Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability Advisory Committee; and that the membership draft a Terms of Reference for the committee for approval by the Board.

Individuals wishing to ask questions of the Board upon completion of Committee and Board sessions shall do so in writing on the form provided which includes their name, street address and email address.  The individual will be asked to verify his/her self and be afforded the opportunity to read out their own question.  Each individual shall be limited to one follow-up question upon receiving a response. Forms are available in the information rack near the entrance of the Board Room.
